Jetta vs Passat: Which Versatile VW Sedan is Best for You?

amarillo-vw-jetta

With a high-quality lineup of versatile sedans, Volkswagen is the easy choice for people in the market for a 4-door. So which Volkswagen sedan do you choose: the compact Jetta or the midsize Passat?

We’ve laid out some of the key differences between the two, so you can figure out which model is right for you. Once you decide you can check out both the new Volkswagen Passat and the new Volkswagen Jetta for sale at Street Toyota in Amarillo, Texas.

2018 Volkswagen Jetta vs. 2018 Volkswagen Passat: Find Your Next Sedan

Cabin Space

The main difference between these models is size. As the larger of the vehicles, the 2018 Passat has more passenger space than the Jetta at 102 cu. ft. The Jetta’s cabin isn’t much smaller, measuring in at 94.1 cu. ft.

Both vehicles offer plenty of room for front- and rear-row passengers to stretch out. The Passat’s larger size makes it better suited for larger families and carpoolers.

Trunk Space

Although it is the smaller sedan, the Jetta provides only marginally less trunk space. The Jetta boasts an impressive 15.7 cu. ft. of cargo space and the Passat offers 15.9 cu. ft. Both sedans also feature 60/40 folding rear seats, which let you expand the trunk’s capacity.

Fuel Efficiency

If you’re looking to save at the pump, the 2018 Volkswagen Jetta may be the better match for you. The Jetta offers up to 40 mpg on the highway. However, with up to 36 mpg on the highway, the Passat is no gas guzzler.

Performance

While both sedans offer impressive lineups of turbocharged engines, the Passat takes the edge when it comes to performance. The Passat’s available 210-horsepower 3.6L V6 engine is the most powerful choice between both cars.

Pricing

The Passat’s larger size comes with a slightly higher price tag. At the base trim level, the Jetta’s starting price is lower than the Passat’s.

Which VW Sedan is Right for You?

Which model you choose will ultimately depend on your budget and priorities. If you’re dealing with a slightly smaller budget, looking for better fuel efficiency, or don’t need the extra passenger space, the 2018 Volkswagen Jetta is an excellent pick. If you frequently drive with passengers or want V6 power, you should opt for the 2018 Volkswagen Passat.

Still not sure which car you want? Contact Street Volkswagen at (806) 350-8999 to learn more about both models. You can also see VW’s sedans in action at our Amarillo, Texas, showroom.

If you've got a low coolant level issue, then you'll see what looks like a thermometer situated on a small wave, in red. Diesel engine owners will recognize a yellow coil light when turning over their engine – this is no problem, and just represents the use of heated elements to help start the engine. If this light is blinking, however, there is an issue with this system. Volkswagen AdBlue® System Issues You'll know that your fluid level is low if you see a half-empty canister pouring fluid. If a wrench appears alongside the previous light, then the system is somehow malfunctioning.
