Shop Pre-Owned Cars and Trucks in Amarillo, TX

The pre-owned side of a Volkswagen store is not all Volkswagens, and ours never has been. Because we take trades on everything, this lot carries a rotating mix of domestic half-tons, three-quarter-ton diesels, full-size and midsize SUVs, hybrids and imports alongside the used Volkswagens. If you came here looking for a used truck rather than a used Golf, keep scrolling. A meaningful share of what is listed above is four-wheel drive, which is not something you can say about most franchise pre-owned lots in a city this size, and it exists because Panhandle trades come in that way.

What actually matters when you are buying used out here is not the badge, it is history. Two Amarillo-specific things to ask about on any vehicle, ours or anyone else's. First, hail. The Texas Panhandle is the most hail-prone part of the state, with a hard peak in April and early May and a second run of it in September and October as fronts drop out of Colorado. A car that has spent its life here has probably seen a storm, and what you want to know is whether damage was repaired properly and whether it was ever reported. Second, wind and highway miles. Amarillo is the windiest city in the country and the towns people commute from are forty to fifty miles out, so a lot of local vehicles carry high highway mileage on relatively young suspension and tires. That is usually good news for the engine and worth a close look underneath.

On the Volkswagen side, the useful thing to know is that the previous-generation Tiguan offered an optional third row and the current one does not, so two used Tiguans a few years apart can be very different vehicles. If seven seats are non-negotiable, the Atlas is the more reliable place to look, whether used or new. Most of the used Volkswagens here happen to be certified, which changes what you get with the car rather than just the sticker on it. There is a full explanation on our Volkswagen CPO overview page, and if you want to sort out financing before you shop, you can apply online in a few minutes.

Buying a Pre-Owned Vehicle at Street Volkswagen: Common Questions

Do you only sell used Volkswagens, or other makes too?

Other makes too, and a lot of them. Because every trade that comes through the door is appraised and a good number are kept for retail rather than sent to auction, the pre-owned lot here usually spans a dozen or more brands at any given time, including domestic pickups, large SUVs and hybrids. The mix is genuinely unpredictable from week to week, which is why it is worth telling us what you are hunting for instead of only shopping what is photographed today.

Which used Volkswagen SUV seats seven people?

The Atlas, in any year we stock it. The Tiguan is the one that catches people out: the previous-generation long-wheelbase Tiguan offered a small third row as an option, so some used examples have it and some do not, while the current generation is five-seat only. If a third row is the whole reason you are shopping, check the specific vehicle rather than the model name, or go straight to an Atlas and remove the doubt.

What is the difference between a used Volkswagen and a certified one?

Certified means the vehicle met a standard set by Volkswagen rather than a standard set by us. A certified car has to pass a manufacturer-specified inspection, clear a full history report with no disqualifying findings, and it carries a warranty that any authorized Volkswagen dealer in the country will honor, not just this store. A non-certified used vehicle is inspected and reconditioned by our technicians and can be an excellent car, but the backing is different. One more thing worth stating plainly: only a Volkswagen can be Volkswagen Certified Pre-Owned. A well-inspected Ford or Toyota on this lot cannot be, no matter how good it is.

How does a trade appraisal actually work?

It takes about fifteen to thirty minutes. We scan the VIN to pull current market data, then walk the vehicle: paint and panels, glass, wheels, tire tread depth, interior wear and odor, and a mechanical check and road test. The number is shaped heavily by one decision made during that walkaround, which is whether the vehicle will be retailed here or sent to a dealer-only auction, and that is why two similar cars can appraise differently. In this market, hail history and prior hail repair are a real factor, so bring any repair documentation you have.

Can I get approved with less than perfect credit?

Often, yes. We work with a range of lenders rather than a single bank, and used-vehicle terms depend on the lender, the age and mileage of the vehicle, the term length and your credit profile. The most useful thing you can do is apply before you fall in love with something, because an approval tells us which vehicles on the lot are actually workable for you and saves you driving one you cannot finance. Nobody here needs to run your credit just to give you a walkaround.

Does a used vehicle come with any warranty coverage?

It depends on the vehicle. A newer Volkswagen may still have time and miles left on its original factory warranty, which runs from the date it was first put into service rather than from when you buy it, so the remaining coverage varies car to car. Certified vehicles add a manufacturer-backed warranty on top of that. On older or non-Volkswagen vehicles, factory coverage has usually expired, and a service contract is the way to cover future repairs. Ask for the specific remaining coverage on the stock number you are looking at and we will pull it up.
