The Taos is the smallest SUV we sell and one of the easiest to live with. A 1.5-liter turbocharged four makes 174 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque through an eight-speed automatic. There is up to 65.9 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded, which is more than the exterior suggests, and the load floor is low enough that you are not lifting things over a high sill.

It suits a household that wants SUV height and sightlines without the bulk, and it is a sensible commuter for anyone whose daily miles are mostly steady highway. It is honest about its limits. It does not have the open-road composure of a Tiguan on a long run, so drive both if most of your week is highway.

The SE Black is the trim people ask for by name: the SE mechanical package with blacked-out trim and wheels. One thing to know about all-wheel drive. 4MOTION is available and standard on the SEL, but it shows up more often on our pre-owned side, so the drivetrain links below cover new and pre-owned together. If you want one new with 4MOTION, call and we will locate it.

Volkswagen Taos Questions from Hereford, TX

Does the Taos come with all-wheel drive?

4MOTION is available from the factory and standard on the SEL. Most new Taos models on our lot are front-wheel drive, so for all-wheel drive check the drivetrain link below, which includes pre-owned, or call and we will locate a new one.

What is the difference between the Taos SE and SE Black?

The SE Black is an appearance package on the SE. It adds black exterior trim, badging and wheels. The engine, transmission and standard equipment are the same, so choose it for the look.

Is the Taos big enough for a family?

For two adults and two smaller children, comfortably. With several car seats or tall teenagers it gets tight, and the Tiguan is the better fit. Bring your car seats when you visit and we will fit them before you buy.

How much can the Taos carry?

Up to 65.9 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down. That is a useful number for the footprint, and the low load floor makes it easier to load groceries or luggage.

How does the Taos handle a long drive from Hereford?

The 1.5-liter turbo and eight-speed pairing is efficient on steady highway miles, and the turbo means the engine does not feel starved at altitude the way a small non-turbo engine can.
