Shop New Volkswagen Models in Amarillo, TX

Street Volkswagen of Amarillo sits on Pilgrim Drive just off Soncy on the west side, a few minutes from I-40. Amarillo is a short-commute town wrapped in long-drive country. Inside Loop 335 most people are at work in under twenty minutes, and then the map opens up: forty-three miles down to Hereford, forty-five up US-287 to Dumas, fifty-three out US-60 to Pampa, seventeen to Canyon on I-27. That split is worth settling before you pick a model, because the vehicle that suits a fifteen-minute run across town is not always the one you want two hours into a Panhandle crosswind on the way home from Perryton.

Most of what we stock new is front-wheel drive, and for a lot of Amarillo driving that is the honest right answer. 4Motion all-wheel drive is worth holding out for if your miles include unpaved county and FM roads, or if you would rather not think about the handful of mornings a year when a blue norther leaves ice on the overpasses. Be clear-eyed about what it does, though: all-wheel drive helps you get moving and holds a line better on packed snow and drifted shoulders, and it does nothing at all for stopping distance. Tires do that. On body style, the Atlas is the only three-row Volkswagen we sell new. The current Tiguan is a five-seat SUV, so if you need a third row, look at the Atlas or at an earlier Tiguan over on the pre-owned side of the lot.

Two more things worth knowing before you drive anything. Every gas engine in the current Volkswagen lineup is turbocharged, which is a real advantage at Amarillo's 3,600 feet, since a turbo gives up far less power at altitude than a naturally aspirated engine of the same size. And the Jetta GLI is now the last Volkswagen sold in the United States with a manual gearbox, which makes the ones listed above genuinely the end of something rather than a trim choice that will be there next year. If you want to read through specs and features before you come out, our Volkswagen model research pages cover the lineup, and our hours and directions are here whenever you are ready.

Buying a New Volkswagen at Street Volkswagen: Common Questions

Which new Volkswagen models can I get with all-wheel drive?

4Motion all-wheel drive is available on the Taos, Tiguan, Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport, it is standard on the Golf R, and the ID.4 offers a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup. The Jetta, Jetta GLI and Golf GTI are front-wheel drive only. Worth knowing before you come out: front-wheel-drive builds make up the large majority of what we keep on the ground here, so if 4Motion is a requirement rather than a preference, say so early and we will either find one on the lot or locate one for you.

Does the new Volkswagen Tiguan still come with a third row?

No. The current-generation Tiguan is a five-seat SUV, and the optional third row belonged to the previous generation. If you need seven seats from a Volkswagen, the Atlas is the answer on the new side. If you specifically want a Tiguan with the third row, that means shopping the pre-owned side, where the older long-wheelbase Tiguan turns up regularly. It is a genuinely different vehicle from the one on this page, so drive both before you decide.

Can I still buy a Volkswagen with a manual transmission?

Only the Jetta GLI, and only for the current model year. The GLI is the last manual transmission Volkswagen offers in the United States, and from next model year it becomes automatic-only. The Golf GTI already went that way with its most recent update, so it is dual-clutch automatic across every trim. If a third pedal matters to you, this is not a decision you can put off a year, and we would rather tell you that than let you find out later.

What happens if the exact new Volkswagen I want is not listed above?

You have three routes and they differ a lot in timing. We can watch for a matching unit in transit, which is usually the fastest. We can try a dealer locate, which depends entirely on who else has one and whether they will trade it. Or we can place a factory order, which gets you the exact color, trim and options with the longest wait. Tell us which of the three matters most, speed or specification, and we will point you at the realistic one instead of the optimistic one.

How do I get real numbers on a new Volkswagen before I drive out?

Use the request form on any vehicle listing above and ask for the out-the-door figure on that specific stock number, including fees and any current factory programs you qualify for. Doing it by stock number matters, because rebates and finance offers are usually tied to a particular model and term rather than the lineup as a whole. If you have a trade, send the year, mileage and VIN at the same time so we can work both halves together instead of one at a time.

Do you work with buyers outside Amarillo?

Regularly. Canyon is a seventeen-mile run up I-27, and we see steady traffic from Hereford, Dumas, Borger, Pampa and Plainview, plus buyers from eastern New Mexico around Clovis. If you are driving in from out of town, call ahead so we can have the vehicle pulled up, fueled and ready rather than parked at the back of the lot. For New Mexico buyers, titling and registration work differently, so mention it up front and we will get the paperwork lined up correctly the first time.
