With so many different Golf models available, it is common to wonder which Volkswagen Golf goes the fastest. Since the Golf isn’t necessarily a sport-oriented vehicle, it can sometimes be a challenge to find top speed or acceleration information on certain models.

You should also keep in mind that every VW Golf will give you a fun driving experience with plenty of pep. If performance is truly important to you, however, then take a look at the following comparison.

Comparing Speed, Acceleration, and Power in the VW Golf

Golf S and Wolfsburg

The most common version of the Golf is the original Volkswagen model, which is available in two trims. Either way, it has a 1.8-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 170 horsepower and 199 pound-feet. This model can go from 0 to 60 MPH in just 7.8 seconds.

Golf GTI

The Golf GTI, with its 2-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, goes even faster. This engine gives you 258 pound-feet of torque and 210 horsepower. When configured correctly, it can get up to 60 MPH in 5.9 seconds. According to some testing, the Golf GTI can reach 155 miles per hour.

Golf R

The Golf R is actually the fastest VW Golf variant thanks to its 2-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with 292 horsepower and 280 pound-feet. When paired with the 6-speed automated manual DSG, it only takes 5.3 seconds to reach 60 MPH. This model also has a top speed of 155 miles per hour.

e-Golf

While no one expects the Volkswagen e-Golf to be the fastest in the family, it is still included for the sake of comparison. Its permanent-magnet synchronous AC motor generates up to 199 pound-feet and 115 horsepower. When driving in Normal Mode, you will need 9.3 seconds to reach 60 MPH.

Golf SportWagen

The Golf SportWagen has a different body style than the others, but it is still a Golf. This model has 170 horsepower and 184 or 199 pound-feet of torque from its 1.8-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder and a 0-to-60 time of 7 seconds.

Golf Alltrack

The newest model, the Golf Alltrack has the same 1.8-liter turbocharged engine as the SportWagen and regular Golf, meaning it isn’t the fastest, either. Despite that, it is still incredibly fun to drive and goes as fast as you will ever need on a daily basis.

The Volkswagen Golf Alltrack is a little bit of everything. Roomy like a crossover. Sophisticated like a luxury sedan. Sporty like a coupe.

The Alltrack is a go-anywhere, bring-anything wagon expected to rival the popular Subaru Outback. Kelley Blue Book described it as “a versatile soul that’s dynamic yet compliant.”

The Alltrack just hit the American market in the fall of 2016, and Street Volkswagen in Amarillo, TX, has them in inventory. Come see what this vehicle is all about by taking a test drive today.

The Alltrack Has It All

Staying true to the lifestyle of a wagon driver, the Alltrack is built for the great outdoors. The roofline of the Alltrack is six inches lower than the Subaru Outback, making it easier to stash bikes, kayaks or other gear on the roof rails above. Once you’re all set, the Alltrack’s 4MOTION all-wheel drive with an off-road mode takes you where you need to go with ease.

On the open road, the Alltrack shifts seamlessly from rugged outdoor buggy to performance sedan. The 1.8-liter TSI® turbocharged engine ramps up 170 horsepower and 199 lb.-ft. of torque while still delivering an EPA-estimated 30 MPG on the highway.

The exterior design of the Alltrack mirrors that of a sporty coupe. Bi-xenon headlights with an Adaptive Front Lighting System, a panoramic sunroof and 18-inch Canyon alloy wheels make you forget you’re in a car built for practicality.

Inside the Alltrack you’ll find all the technology you’d least expect from a wagon. VW Car-Net® App-Connect brings all the apps from your smartphone right to your dashboard while SiriusXM® Satellite Radio brings music to your ears. Keyless access with push-button start and a rearview camera appeal to the convenience we all desire.

Pack the passengers inside the Alltrack, and you’ll feel like you’re in a crossover SUV. Folding rear seats with release levers in the cargo area make an already-spacious hatchback even more inviting.

The safety features of the Alltrack parallel those of today’s family sedans. Front Assist, Park Assist, Lane Assist, Park Pilot and Adaptive Cruise Control are just some of the things designed to give you a helping hand.

Check out the 2017 Volkswagen Alltrack at Street Volkswagen to see how you can get a little bit of everything on just four wheels.

Age before beauty. Or is it beauty before age? When it comes to buying a used car, does it really matter? There are older cars with low mileage, and there are newer cars with heavier mileage. So which one is preferred?

Actually, there are benefits to both.

Older Models with Fewer Miles

One of the scariest things about buying an older used car is having to immediately spend a small fortune on repairs soon after driving it home. But provided that the car was properly stored and driven at least semi-regularly (just to keep the juices flowing), a car with low mileage is always a safe bet no matter how old it may be. The lifespan of parts is generally counted in miles and not years, so the parts on a low mileage car will most often be in good working condition and will reduce the odds of you buying a lemon while maximizing the amount of time you have before things start to go awry.

Newer Cars with More Miles

Buying a used car can sometimes mean sacrificing some of the latest and greatest amenities offered by newer models. But this sacrifice can be circumvented by opting for a used car that’s only a few years old. If it’s high on mileage, it may mean snagging a car with all the modern bells and whistles without breaking the bank.

Plus, a newer car has been exposed to fewer winter seasons and the bulk of those miles are likely highway miles, which are less hazardous to a car’s health than city miles.

The Winner Is…

The best value in a used car doesn’t necessarily reside with one or the other demographics described above. The truth is, getting the most value out of a used car purchase comes down to the certification standards set forth by the dealership. At Street Volkswagen, we don’t just sell any old used VW. Our certified pre-owned program requires all vehicles to pass a 112-point inspection performed by a factory-trained technician. As a consumer, you may also view the car’s vehicle history report as well as the research we make available for all our used VW models.

Browse our used inventory and soak in all the beauty — or age — of a used Volkswagen.

Volkswagen manufacturer recently revealed its new Atlas, a mid-size SUV that is built by Americans, for Americans. The Atlas will be built in Chattanooga, TN, and is due out in the spring of 2017 as a 2018 model year vehicle.

While Volkswagens have long been popular on American roadways, the vision for the Atlas was of a slightly different course. Instead of designing a car for Americans, why not let Americans actually design it themselves? Volkswagen gathered feedback from American drivers about what they wanted in a vehicle and the Atlas was born out of that vision.

VW Puts SUV Expectations on the Shoulders of the Atlas

We Americans like things big, including our vehicles. The Atlas doesn’t disappoint, with a seven-passenger interior that busts the seams at the top of the mid-size SUV class and is larger than even the sales-leading Ford Explorer.

Cabin and cargo space isn’t the only thing Americans love. The 238 horsepower generated by the Atlas’ four-cylinder turbocharged engine with direct fuel injection speaks to our need for speed. The upgraded engine is a VR6 with 280 horses running wild. Driving modes for standard, highway, snow, and off-road accompany the various driving conditions found in America.

And in this tech-obsessed nation, the Atlas comes equipped with App-Connect to cater to Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and MirrorLink. A 12-speaker Fender Premium Audio System then pumps up the volume.

Last but not least, safety has vaulted to near the top of Americans’ vehicle wish list. Volkswagen answered by outfitting the Atlas with:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Blind Spot Monitor
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Park Assist
  • Forward Collision Warning
  • Autonomous Emergency Braking.

The campaign for a midsize SUV that all Americans can agree to love is an easy one. Visit Street Volkswagen in Amarillo, Texas, to learn more about the VW Atlas or to find out when one might be available for you to test drive.

Volkswagen Jetta

If what you’re searching for is a used Volkswagen Jetta, then what you’ll find is a trusted model that brings performance and practicality at an affordable price.

Street Volkswagen of Amarillo has a number of used VW Jettas for sale. Come check out our inventory of used VW Jettas for sale near you and take one out for a test drive today.

The VW Jetta

The Jetta has been on the move since 1980. Not only is it Volkswagen’s best-selling model of all-time on U.S. soil, it’s the best-selling European import car in America. When looking at the features of the Jetta, it’s no surprise why.

  • Safety. Volkswagen has always been an innovator of safety, and the 2016 Jetta was given a five-star safety rating by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and named a Top Safety Pick+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
  • Performance. The turbocharged Jetta can put out 150 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque through a direct fuel injection system.
  • Technology. Used VW Jettas of more recent years feature MP3 audio systems controlled by a touchscreen.
  • Comfort and Convenience. Remote power locks give way to a roomy and climate-controlled interior with split-folding rear seats.
  • Efficiency. The 2016 Jetta can get you around the city on 28 MPG and cruise the highways on 40 MPG. And the Jetta TDI provides a diesel option for a midsize car.

New vs. Used

There are many advantages to buying a used car over a new one. Besides saving money upfront, today’s cars are built with better reliability and vehicle history reports are easier than ever to obtain online.

But the Jetta is a particularly smart choice for used car shoppers. In fact, the 2011 VW Jetta was No. 1 on Forbes’ list of the “Best used cars for new graduates” list, citing the model’s track record of safety, reliability, and spacious interior.

Plus, at Street Volkswagen, we continuously run specials on our used inventory and even have a certified pre-owned program to help you find the best deal for your dollar. And our finance department delivers competitive rates and quick approvals on auto loans.

Fashion comes in cycles, and each time it comes back around a modern twist is placed on it. The Volkswagen Beetle, an iconic car first made in 1933, is now back and better than ever.

Volkswagen has unveiled a line of Special Edition Beetles, adding a more modern feel to a classic design. These unique models offer the technology, luxury, and performance we’ve come to expect in the 21st century while remaining true to the Volkswagen Beetle’s nostalgic roots.

Beetle Dune

One of the special edition Beetles is a descendant from a favorite Volkswagen modification: the dune buggy. There’s no mistaking the Beetle Dune for anything else but a VW bug with an aggressive inspiration.

The widened track and raised suspension is a nod to the Beetle’s dirt-racing history. That theme continues inside with special sport seats and a flat-bottomed steering wheel. The Volkswagen Car-Net® App-Connect, which brings music and apps from your smartphone to a touchscreen, ensures you’re not sacrificing the modern conveniences you desire for the nostalgia you’re seeking.

Beetle Convertible Denim

What were the 1970’s all about? Denim. This stonewashed blue Beetle is a tribute to the Volkswagen Beetle’s classic Jeans model. For this special edition, Volkswagen took the sporty Beetle convertible and added a rear spoiler, a multi-function sport steering wheel, a color touchscreen, and more.

Only 2,000 of these vehicles will be produced and with a zippy 170 horsepower in the engine, they’ll come off the assembly line fast.

#PinkBeetle

When Josef Ganz designed the Volkswagen Beetle, he likely didn’t envision Barbie-pink and a name after a Twitter hashtag. Meet the Volkswagen #PinkBeetle. The Fresh Fuchsia Metallic paint job covers everything except the wheels and will draw attention on any crowded highway while the pink plaid seats round out the theme on the interior.

This special edition Beetle evolved from a concept car that that was introduced at the 2015 New York Auto Show and is set to hit dealerships in limited quantities in the fall of 2016. But before you dismiss the seriousness of this car, keep in mind that it has already raised more than $30,000 for breast cancer research.

Hit the Street

If the Volkswagen special edition Beetles have caught your interest, stop into Street Volkswagen in Amarillo and speak with one of our associates. We’re happy to talk all things VW, including these spirited special edition models and our own great selection (which we think is pretty special in its own right). See you soon.

What’s a CUV? The difference between a CUV and an SUV is a matter of size. CUV stands for Crossover Utility Vehicle, which is a more compact version of the larger Sport Utility Vehicle. For those with fewer transport needs, a CUV may be a better choice in terms of fuel economy and maneuverability.

So what’s the T-Cross Breeze concept CUV? The video above from Test DRIVE gives viewers a first look at the new car as displayed at the Geneva Motor Show.

Closely resembling the Volkswagen Tiguan, the T-Cross Breeze is a melding of two car designs you don’t often see together: a crossover and a convertible. Though the vehicle is just in the concept stage now, Volkswagen indicates that something like it will be joining the Volkswagen SUV and CUV lineup, along with two more vehicles.

The T-Cross Breeze isn’t ready to hit the streets just yet, but keep an eye out in 2017 as Volkswagen keeps rolling out new SUV and crossover designs to wow buyers across the world.

close up photo of the 4Motion stick shift in a Volkswagen

A Volkswagen comes with a lot of options. From engine type to paint job, you have a say in every aspect of your new VW. In some models, you even have a choice of available drivetrains and transmissions.

Let’s look at the advantages of driving a car equipped with Volkswagen’s 4MOTION permanent all-wheel drive system. Afterward we’ll review the VW models currently available with 4MOTION.

The 411 on Volkswagen’s 4MOTION Drive System

First thing’s first: what exactly is 4MOTION?

4MOTION is Volkswagen’s permanent all-wheel drive system. It distributes the engine’s power to all four wheels as required. This drivetrain provides high active safety, ensures reliable traction on all surfaces, and optimizes directional stability at all times.

Depending on road conditions, the Volkswagen 4MOTION system automatically distributes engine power to different wheels. This adjustment minimizes the difficulty of driving in adverse weather conditions or on rough terrain.

If your VW has a longitudinal engine, driving force will be transferred to your rear wheels as needed by a mechanical Torsen differential. If you have a transverse engine, power will be distributed by an electronic Haldex coupling.

Added safety gives 4MOTION an advantage over other all-wheel drive systems. VW’s 4MOTION can also be combined with other control systems such as electronic differential lock and traction control.

Four VW Models Available With 4MOTION

Currently, there are only four Volkswagen models available with 4MOTION (and one more on the way).
